Air Canada and WestJet Cause Travel Hiccup, Cancel around Thirty New Flights Across Canada, U.S. and UK, Stranding Passengers at Toronto, Houston Bush, London Heathrow and More Airports

Air Canada and WestJet causes travel hiccup as they have cancelled around thirty flights across Canada, the U.S., and the UK, leaving many passengers stranded at major airports such as Toronto, Houston Bush, and London Heathrow. The disruption is affecting both domestic and international travelers, with key routes linking Toronto Pearson, Montreal-Trudeau, Vancouver, and Calgary to destinations in the U.S. and the UK. Passengers have faced significant delays, with some flights grounded for hours or even longer. The cancellations have rippling effects, causing severe congestion at several airports. Those traveling through Toronto, Houston, and London are especially impacted, as these locations are major hubs for both airlines. Air Canada and WestJet are offering rebooking options, but limited availability is complicating the situation. Travelers are urged to check their flight statuses and reach out to customer service for assistance, as more disruptions could follow.

Total 29 cancellations and 128 delays by these 2 airlines across different countries and cities.

Air Canada has been hit with a series of cancellations, primarily affecting flights within Canada and to the United States. Affected airports include Toronto Pearson International (CYYZ), Montreal-Trudeau (CYUL), Vancouver International (CYVR), and Winnipeg International (CYWG). Passengers flying out of Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, as well as those traveling to and from these cities, are seeing widespread cancellations.

These cancellations have a ripple effect on the schedules of travelers, especially with routes connecting major hubs like Toronto and Montreal. In total, 13 flights were cancelled across these routes, with passengers facing delays ranging from a few hours to an entire day.

WestJet passengers are also dealing with significant disruptions. Over 16 flights have been cancelled, affecting key routes from Calgary International (CYYC), Victoria International (CYYJ), Toronto Pearson (CYYZ), and Vancouver International (CYVR).

These cancellations are especially severe on domestic and international connections, with delays impacting flights between Calgary and cities like Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg, as well as international destinations such as London Heathrow. The worst-hit airports include Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver, with a large volume of travelers experiencing delays.

WestJet’s delays are widespread, with a 14% delay rate affecting multiple routes, especially those traveling from Calgary and Toronto. Affected travelers can expect delays ranging from several hours to more than half a day, with certain routes being significantly disrupted due to aircraft and crew availability issues.

Passengers traveling with both Air Canada and WestJet should check their flight status regularly for updates on delays and cancellations. Both airlines are offering rebooking options, but due to the high volume of affected flights, availability may be limited. Travelers should also be prepared for longer wait times at customer service desks and on phone lines.

Air Canada passengers departing from airports like Toronto Pearson (CYYZ), Montreal-Trudeau (CYUL), and Vancouver International (CYVR) should be aware that alternative options to rebook flights may be limited, particularly on routes impacted by cancellations.

For WestJet travelers, those departing from Calgary (CYYC), Toronto (CYYZ), and Vancouver (CYVR) should look into rebooking opportunities or request assistance through the airline’s customer service channels. Travelers flying to international destinations like London Heathrow should be prepared for extended delays, as this route is among the most heavily affected.

It is advised that affected passengers explore alternative routes where possible, particularly for shorter domestic flights, or seek compensation and accommodations from the airlines, as many will be offering vouchers or hotel stays for passengers whose flights have been heavily delayed or cancelled.

Passengers traveling from any of the impacted airports should ensure they have their travel details and documents ready, and stay informed via their airline’s website or app for real-time updates.
